Here is a link to the Google Maps entry.
The address is 6301 FM183, Gatesville, TX 76528
If you have to be 100% available by cellphone, you may want to make arrangements or check your provider’s coverage map. Inside the building most people have little to no cell service. It can be a great way to tell your boss to take a hike for the weekend 😉
RV Slots and sleeping arrangements
There are 32 RV slots on site, a mix of 50 amp and 30 amp. Slots are $20/night for the $30 amp, and $25/night for 50 amp. Some of the slots near the building have hookups for both, along with the slots nearer the South East corner… often known as ‘up the hill’ because it is at a slightly higher elevation. That corner is also where most people get the best cell service. (need to add a satellite map with the slots marked out)
Please note that the ground has been shored up through the years with gravel, but it is still unpaved. It is extremely rare for for people to get stuck in the mud but it is not unheard of if we’ve had a very very large rain event. Generally, if you avoid the low lying area along the west fence you should be fine. We will try to keep the Facebook page and this website updated if there are severe weather concerns that people should be aware of.
Tent camping, or sleeping in your vehicle on site is $20 per night.
There are several hotels in Gatesville if you don’t have an RV/sleeper camper, and don’t want to tent camp. Here are Google map links to some options Comfort Inn & Suites, Rodeway Inn, Gatesville Inn, Regency Inn, Holiday Inn, and Ramada. This is not a comprehensive list of all the lodging options and none of the links are sponsored. There are several Bed and Breakfasts around if you want a different experience than the chain hotels.
Sleeping in the building is not strictly banned, so that people who stay later than intended and are too tired to drive have the safe option of crashing on one of the couches. However, it is strongly discouraged.
Food
Members of the community serve lunch on Saturday from about 11:am to 2 or 3 pm (depending on how long the pies lasts!) for a small fee that supports the Community Center. Side note: if you are not part of the kitchen teams setting up lunch, please DO NOT MESS WITH THE KITCHEN. This is part of the truce the pickers have negotiated with the lovely people that provide the food – respecting each other’s boundaries is a key part of every healthy relationship and we don’t want to aggravate the cooks!
It never hurts to bring a cooler (though they are not allowed in the building) with some snacks if you plan to come early or stay late, though there are quite a few restaurants and a grocery store in Gatesville, about 30 minutes away.
